Dear Parents,
The International Fair showcased students’ ownership of learning and pride in sharing their learning. All of the hard work from the past few months culminated in a very successful celebration, and watching students share what is in their hearts and minds was wonderful.
We have received a lot of positive feedback about the International Fair on how well the children know their topics and their confidence and poise in describing their process and findings. Here’s the feedback from Ms. Griffin’s third grade students in response to: How did the fourth graders make research come alive at the international fair?
I noticed that they showed a lot of detail when they talked or in their drawings. Some could let you taste things, like water, and you could make your own decision. You got to talk and ask questions. That made it really fun and interesting.
There was so much I thought everyone would be interested in at least one thing. I like how they had separate projects, so there were lots of projects and everybody was interested.
I liked how they didn’t just put it on a piece of paper, they didn’t just tell you. They showed you how it worked with a game or something you could feel to actually show you, not just tell you.
There were a bunch of projects and they were all really interesting. Some of the projects had videos, or things you could listen to or look at. They were all really interesting and detailed. Some of them had questions that you could try to answer. It was interesting to see what they came up with.
It took things that you might normally do like play with or use to entertain yourself, and they took that and made it something to teach you.
I noticed that they really left it open to you, they didn’t say, “Don’t touch that!” They said, “Come and see and touch what we did.”
I noticed that every one of the projects that I saw had a clear title. They always shared it with you first. Some of the best projects were really beautiful and that made it intriguing how they decorated it.
Their art was really beautiful and they spent a lot of time doing it and it looked like they spent a lot of time on it.
Instead of rushing you through, they walked you through and read to you and made it clear.
I noticed that all of them showed similar things in really different ways. And all the ways were all good, and lovely, and unique. Some of the things really helped you learn, like when they walked you through it, like you said, going slowly and pausing when you asked questions and never get annoyed.
My sincere gratitude to you for your tremendous support in creating a highly successful International Fair. You did it all -- helping with projects, set-up on the day before, helping during the Fair, and, not least, the final clean up. Our special thanks to the team of parents for taking charge of the planning and setting up of displays in the gym, finding volunteers, and making sure that help was always available; they spent many hours planning this event along with other 4th grade parents. We could not have done the Fair without your support. Here are pictures of all the children in action. International Fair
I hope all of you have a restful and much deserved break,
Asha
