We started the week with a LS Gathering, featuring Rene Bibaud, a professional rope jumper, former Cirque du Soleil performer and inspirational speaker. She taught the children several rope jumping routines and through this she also talked about the importance of trying your best and not comparing yourself to
others, and picking up after mistakes and trying again.

We had to postpone our canoeing trip to Wednesday and the children enjoyed their time outside. Unfortunately, not everyone was in school that day and a couple of children were disappointed that they were not able to join us; I promised them that I would try and schedule one more canoeing trip before it gets too cold.

Language Arts:
A good bit of time was spent working on our poems this week and we will finish our final drafts early next week. Mr. Sternberg was back to work on some word sorts. Our reading this week focused around social studies.

Social Studies:
The children were introduced to the salmon life cycle and our discussions led to questions and wonderings about the availability of clean water and why some countries don’t have enough water while we have too much! This led us to think about ways we use water! The children concluded that we all waste water and came up with ways they might try and do better. They shared their questions and wonderings and picked out one wondering that they wanted to discuss with you. I hope they had this conversation with you.

Math:
The children did their post unit assessment on our study of multiplicative comparisons and equations. The children spent some time learning and playing The Dragon’s Gold and Four in a Row math workplaces games. We will move on to examining linear measurement next week.

Challenge Homework:
The new Challenge Homework went home this week. I hope you had a chance to look it over with your child. The children seemed pretty excited. The challenge homework has a lot of exciting opportunities for individual learning and expression this month. I encourage you to help your child come up with a plan/schedule to help stay on track.

Acolytes:
Our acolytes for next week (10/10) are:  Annie,  Abigail, Jot, Maija, Kamran
Parents are always welcome to attend chapel and photograph their children when they serve as acolytes.

Chapel starts at 8:10 a.m. on Tuesdays.

We ended the week an  8:10 a.m. All School Pep Rally in the gym and the excitement of Homecoming activities in the evening.
